Heavy Equipment Care During Eid Holidays in the Rainy Season

2
Jun

As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, many construction and industrial projects across Bangladesh will take a break for 7–10 days. With the ongoing rainy season, it becomes even more important to take proper care of your heavy equipment—whether it's an excavator, crane, loader, or any other machinery—before leaving them idle.

Here are some essential steps to ensure your equipment stays protected and ready for action after the holidays:

🌧️ 1. Protect from Rain and Water Damage

  • Park equipment on high, dry ground to avoid waterlogging.
  • Cover critical parts (engine, control panels, seats) with tarpaulin or waterproof sheets.
  • Close all windows, doors, and hoods tightly to prevent water ingress.

🛢️ 2. Check and Top Up Fluids

  • Fill fuel tanks to prevent moisture condensation.
  • Check engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and top up as necessary.
  • Apply grease to all joints and moving parts to prevent rust.

🔋 3. Battery Precautions

  • Disconnect battery terminals to avoid slow discharge.
  • Clean terminals and apply petroleum jelly to avoid corrosion.

🧯 4. Safety and Lockout

  • Lower all attachments (bucket, blade, boom) to the ground.
  • Apply hand brakes, and chock wheels or tracks.
  • Remove ignition keys and label equipment as “Out of Service.”

🔐 5. Site and Security

  • Park all equipment in a central, secure location.
  • Notify your site security team and provide them a list of parked machines.
  • Use locks and, if available, GPS tracking or CCTV surveillance.

📋 6. Document and Inspect

  • Perform a pre-holiday inspection and record any issues.
  • Take photos of each machine’s condition for reference.
  • Share a report with your site supervisor or head office.

Final Thoughts

A little attention before the break can save a lot of effort and cost after it. Let’s make sure our valuable equipment remains protected during the Eid holidays and the heavy monsoon showers.

Eid Mubarak! Stay safe and stay prepared.
