Excavator safety during rainy season

1. Protect the Machine

  • Park on high, well-drained ground to prevent waterlogging.
  • Use a waterproof cover for the engine and cabin if possible.
  • Avoid leaving the machine in standing water for long periods.

2. Electrical System Care

  • Check all wiring, connectors, and battery terminals—keep them dry and tight.
  • Apply waterproof grease on connectors to prevent short circuits.
  • Never start the excavator if electrical parts are submerged.

3. Air Intake & Filters

  • Ensure the air intake is above water level.
  • Clean or replace the air filter frequently—rain and mud clog it quickly.
  • Check the pre-cleaner bowl if your machine has one.

4. Hydraulic System

  • Inspect hydraulic hoses and seals for leaks—rain can worsen weak points.
  • Make sure the hydraulic oil tank cap is sealed properly (no water entry).
  • If water contamination is suspected, change the oil immediately.

5. Lubrication & Rust Prevention

  • Grease all joints (boom, arm, bucket pins) more frequently in wet conditions.
  • Apply anti-rust spray on exposed metal parts.
  • Dry the machine after work if possible.

6. Undercarriage Maintenance

  • Remove mud and debris from tracks daily.
  • Check track tension—mud buildup can affect alignment.
  • Inspect rollers and idlers for wear.

7. Fuel System

  • Keep the fuel tank full to reduce condensation.
  • Drain water from the fuel filter/water separator regularly.

8. Safe Operation

  • Avoid working on soft, slippery ground—risk of tipping.
  • Move slowly; braking and turning are less effective in mud.
  • Ensure proper visibility—clean glass and use lights.

9. Post-Rain Inspection

  • After heavy rain, do a full check:
    • Engine oil condition
    • Hydraulic oil
    • Electrical system
    • Structural parts (cracks, loosen bolts)
